Making your own dog tags can be fun and very profitable. In the past few years many dog tag websites have appeared. The majority of them offer single sets as well as wholesale bulk purchases. Most of the information found in this section applies to when the quantity of tags needed warrants the investment in the machinery to produce them. In order to make your own your dog tags you must consider the following: what material is being used, which customization method is best and what type of hardware attachments are available and appropriate for the dog tags intended use. Material
The most common materials for dog tags are stainless steel, aluminum and plastic. Authentic military dog tags are made from stainless steel. Aluminum and plastic are used for military "style" dog tags.

Customization Methods
For the most part the customization method used will depend on the dog tag material. The most common methods are embossing, laser engraving and full color process printing.

Hardware Attachments & Accessories
The most common dog tag hardware attachment is either a 24" or 30" neck chain. Other options include a shorter 4" chain as well as split ring for keys. Rubber dog tags silencers are now available in a variety of cool colors and offer an authentic military "style" look.
